John Tavares
3 Goals and 4 assists in 5 games.
Last Thursday the 28th of February the Toronto Maple Leafs played in New York. John Tavares, Toronto’s big signing of the summer, was returning to New York to play against the Islanders for the first time in his career. Tavares spent the first 8 years of is NHL career in New York, and in that time put up 22 points in the playoffs, only getting to the second round once in that time.
Tavares did not register a point against the Islanders, but his presences was known at all times. The Islanders fans gave him some boos and other chants during the game to let him know their discomfort with coming back. My personal favorite chant was the “WE DON'T NEED YOU” Tavares and the Leafs could meet up with the Islanders in the playoffs and that would totally be worth watching.
Tavares is playing on one of the best offensive teams in the NHL. He is registering less ice time this season then he has in his entire career, except his rookie season, and he is being more productive than ever before. Tavares is learning how to fill in a roll that he isn’t used to, he is not the guy on Toronto, he is just one of the guys. Tavares has 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games, making him our player of the week
