Ten Games

Writer's picture: Jimmy LynchJimmy Lynch

It has been a week since the last UTL article. We apologize for the lack of content. However, we are back and with the playoffs right around the corner it’s now time we start looking ahead to the playoffs.

The Chicago Blackhawks were looking great, but then they were looking out of it. Now, they seem to be fighting their way back into a playoff spot. Here is their place in the wild card race as of today.

The Blackhawks need to win their next 10 games, I repeat THE BLACKHAWKS NEED TO WIN THEIR NEXT 10 GAMES. With only 10 games left here our the Blackhawks opponents.

Philadelphia 3/21 Home

Colorado 3/23 Away

Colorado 3/24 Home

Arizona 3/26 Away

San Jose 3/28 Away

LA 3/30 Away

Winnipeg 4/1 Home

St Louis 4/3 Home

Dallas 4/5/19 Home

Nashville 4/6 Home

After Thursday, the Blackhawks will not play another Eastern Conference team, until next season of course. The game on Thursday will bring the Philadelphia Flyers and Ryan Hartman into the UC. This is a must win for the Hawks, who will be looking to bounce back after an overtime loss. Chicago’s next 3 games after the Flyers come against opponents who are also searching for that last wild card spot. The Blackhawks need to get 4 points from Colorado IN REGULATION. The Avs have played arguably better hockey than the Hawks this season, but thanks to Patrick Kane, the Blackhawks still have a shot. After that tough double header, the Blackhawks will start a 3 game road trip against Arizona, San Jose, and LA. All 3 of those games are must wins, but it should be understood that the Hawks need to beat Arizona. Arizona sits above the Hawks in the standings and things are not going to get any easier.

Now I know what you are thinking,

“Jimmy how bias can you possibly be?”

My response is simple,

This article is about the glass being half full for Chicago, it is about maybe them having an above 500 record and sneaking into the playoffs, and this article is trying to show you that they have the schedule to keep things in their own hands.

Chicago closes out the season with 3 of their 4 opponents already being locked in a playoff spot, Winnipeg and St Louis at home, and Nashville on the road. Usually looking at a stretch like that fans would curl over to the side and prepare for the worst, however this comes at a time when teams are resting guys. All 3 of those teams will be locked in a playoff spot, and hopefully not competing for a seating anymore. Why risk Pekka Rinne, or Patrik Laine, for example, to injury when you could rest them against the Blackhawks?

Moral of the story is the Blackhawks need to win 10 games and it can happen…
