Our Picks NFC/AFC Games

Writer's picture: Jimmy LynchJimmy Lynch

This weekend is the highly coveted NFC AFC matchup games, lets see who our staff pick to win

James Randolph (NFL Contributor)

As of now each team has a fair shot of winning. In the Patriots vs the Chiefs game, you have Tom Brady facing one of the worst defenses in the league, but they are coming off a fire game where the basically had Andrew luck in a box.

Also The Chiefs defense held one of the best running game offensive lines to under 100 yards so the Patriots are going to have to lean heavily on their passing game. Unless the Patriots can stir up a great zone running scheme which the Chiefs have struggled against all year the Chiefs defense may come out on top.I still have the Patriots winning that game in a 35-34 victory.

For the Saints and Rams game, they are the two most complete teams left in the playoffs, they both have high flying offense and turnover machine defenses. Drew Brees is facing one of the best front sevens in the league and an above average secondary. I have the Rams winning that game 21-14 just because I feel that it will come down to who gets their offense on the field most of the game and I suspect it will be the Rams using Todd Gurley’s running game.

I completely understand where James is coming from when he believes the Rams and Patriots will win. The exciting NFC/AFC games are always filled with twists and turns right up until the end, so many twists and turns I believe the Chiefs and Saints will meet in the super bowl.

It is Drew Brees year. The veteran quarterback is having a MVP level season, and with one of the most complete teams in the NFL it is Drew’s year to return to the Super Bowl. The Rams do have a dominant run game, there is no way they will go down without a fight, but I believe the Saints will be more successful on 3rd down conversions and beat the Rams.

On the flip side of things it is always hard to bet against Tom Brady, but let’s do just that because it just makes it even more frustrating when Brady wins. The Chiefs are a young team with a very explosive style of play. They might be able to stay with the Patriots for a full game and beat them in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes might be the next Tom Brady of the AFC. Mahomes will be terrifying the NFL for years and years to come, and he needs to dethrone the currant king. We can tell you all day about the analysis, that this will be a game played in the sky with passing, or a million other things. All I have to say now is kickoff is at 2:05 for the Saints Rams game and 5:40 for the Patriots Chiefs game.
