The Tampa Bay Lighting are on point to win the Stanley Cup. With offensive guns in Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and Brayden Point this team could win every game by 8. Tampa has had a great last couple of years, including a trip to the conference finals 3 times with one ending with a ticket to the finals since 2015. Tampa has been a dominant regular season team for a while, except they can never seem to pull together the 16 wins needed to get the Stanley Cup back in Tampa Bay. This year may be different.
Ryan McDonagh, Victor Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev, and Andrei Vasilevsky, the Lighting defensive side of the ice is as strong as their offense. Even when Vasilevsky is hurt Louis Domingue has proven that he can help win games. Tampa bay has one of the fastest teams in the game of hockey. One of the reasons for their success this season is a player still on an entry level contract.
Brayden Point has 21 goals and 20 assists so far this season. He is on pace to crack everyone of his personal records for goals and assists. Point plays on one of the most talented teams in all of hockey, but he is a very big part of that team. Point, notching the second most amount of ice time on a very talented Lighting team, is making a big impact.
Point has one of the most productive lines in hockey. Tyler Johnson, Brayden Point, and Nikita Kucherov all have had successful season thus far. Their success on Tampa’s second line give more room for Stamkos, Palat, and Gourde to move around and score goals. Opposing teams will have to choose wisely on what line on the Lighting team they will defend with their top defensemen. Tampa has the firepower to beat every team with any line, and it only helps with Point on the team.
