Going On or Going Home

Writer's picture: Jimmy LynchJimmy Lynch

Notre Dame has had a great year. Finishing the season undefeated. The Irish are playing in the college football playoffs. Led by quarterback Ian Book, with the help of running back Dexter Williams the Irish are playing football today in a bowl game that matters. Notre Dame is a good team, ranked 3rd in the nation, with many talented stars ready to take the ball to the end zone. The question remains do they have what it takes to beat Clemson?

Clemson also finished the season undefeated, and is ranked 2nd in the nation. At the end of the day the rank doesn’t matter it only matters how they play today.

Both of these teams have had some similar stories throughout the year. For example both Ian Book and Trevor Lawrence the quarterbacks for Notre Dame and Clemson respectively replaced the starting quarterback for the team midway through the season. Book has a bit of an advantage on Lawrence because he has been in Notre Dame’s system for a few years. Book’s advantage over Lawrence might be the only thing going the Irish’s way.

Clemson’s running back Travis Etienne is one of the best running backs in college football. Notre Dame needs to be able to stop Clemson on the run in order to win. Clemson also boasts many talented wide receivers who can dominate the Irish. Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross of Clemson need to be covered by Notre Dame’s secondary.

Experience is a key to this game. ND’s head coach Brian Kelly called his team “the new kid on the block” in reference to their first apperenach in the playoffs. Clemson has been here 4 years in a row now and after a loss to Alabama last year is hunting to get back into the championship.

I predict a win for the Tigers today 31-17 even still go Irish. I hope we get to cover another Irish game after this, maybe they will be going on instead of going home.
