Expectations

Codey Parkey after missing the game winning field goal at the end of the wild card game Sunday against the Eagles.

The Chicago Bears season ended on Sunday. A season that consisted of a lot fun, and unfortunately heartache. The Chicago Bears looked like a new team this year, they looked like a super bowl caliber team, a team that would bring Chicago their first super bowl in over 40 years. Chicago returned to their old typical type of play when they had their game winning field goal blocked at the end of the 4th quarter. I will not remind you that the score was 16-15 Eagles, and I will not remind you that the Bears had made the kick if it was not for a last second timeout by the Eagles. Cody Parkey, who may not ever be seen again in the city of Chicago, missed the kick when it hit the left field goal, and then hit the crossbar just to add insult to injury. This WAS NOT Parkey’s fault. He has been getting a lot of blame the last few days but in reality it was blocked by the Eagles defense.

This game was not Parkey’s fault. It hinges on everyone’s shoulders, an offense that could only put in one touchdown and a defense that took some costly flags when the opposing team was rushing can not except to win. Everyone managed to show up when it was necessary, everyone except the field goal post that could not let the ball bounce in.

The Bears did have a great season, despite a very sudden ending. They managed to turn a team that sat at the bottom of the standings and come back to be the champion of their division and boast a 12-4 record. Matt Nagy will help bring the Bears somewhere soon in the playoffs the one thing we can take away from this year is expectations.

Allen Robinson, Matt Nagy, Khalil Mack, and the highest ranking defense in the NFL will all return next year. Although the Bears are losing their defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, the Bears still will find the right guy for the job.

Looking to the future the Bears are going to have to start building some running back depth in the NFL draft. Ryan Pace, the Bears GM, knows what he is doing he practically built the entire roster this year. Pace might decide to add a running back into the mix as Jordan Howard is on his final year of his contract. One player to target in the draft would be Montgomery. In the draft Pace needs to also go after a new kicker. Cody Parkey, although that game was not his fault, has played his last game in Chicago. It is going to be a longer offseason than normal for the Bears, expectations are going to make fans excited to see the funnest team in the NFL.

With coach Matt Nagy, Qb Mitch Trubisky, defensive star Khalil Mack all returning it is only a matter of time before Chicago will be Bearing down for Super Bowl. Kickoff is in October…...
