Well that backfired on him when the Cubs won the game and captured their first world series in over 100 years.

This happened to my family back in the Stanley Cup final of 2013. The Blackhawks were down 2-1 against the Boston Bruins, with 5 minutes to go my mother left the room and said “It’s over I’m going to bed.” After hearing the celebration from us following the first goal the Blackhawks scored my mother tried to reenter the room. She was not granted access by my father, and 17 seconds later the Blackhawks scored.
