That's So Sweep

Writer's picture: Jimmy LynchJimmy Lynch

Three games. The Cubs are currently on a three game win streak. The Cubs hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in Wrigley Field this past weekend and managed to sweep their division rivals.

Last time the two rivals faced off in St Louis which was only a week ago, Chicago was swept. It felt pretty good for the team to return the favor. The Cubs boasted scored of 3-1 on Friday, 9-4 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday.

Looking at the series this past weekend a few things looked very strong for the Cubs.

Kyle Schwarber Finds The Ball

Schwarber has been connecting with the ball at bat the last few games, he has boasted 3 run and 4 hits in his last 2 games. The left handed batter has done a pretty good job hitting the ball this year, he has the firth most hits on the team after 60 some games this season.

Pitching Needs to Continue to Close

Getting a lead for the Cubs has not been an issue throughout the season so far. After what was an offensive downfall last season at the plate, The Cubs have been connecting a lot this season. The issue for the Cubs is they need to continue to have good pitching in the 5-9th inning.

Hopefully adding Craig Kimbrel will bolster the Cubs pitching rotation. More on Kimbrel in a later article.

We Beat A St. Louis Team!

I hope I am not the bearer of bad news here but the St. Louis Blues are playing the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final. The Blues are one win away from capturing the Stanley Cup, a trophy the Blues have never won and something Blackhawks fans never want to see the Blues have.

The Cubs will face off against the Colorado Rockies on Monday at 7:40. Chicago will want to continue their winging streak as they try and push themselves up higher in the standings over division rival Milwaukee Brewers.
